Heffer’s Secret, to me at least, is a very modern version of the classic hard-boiled detective novel. This story has the rawness of a Mickey Spillane or Brett Halliday pulp tale, with modern 21st century sensibilities for many of the situations.
Allan de la Plante has left the world of action-oriented photography that has brought him such acclaim in the past, and has taken a chance. That chance pays off with Buck Turner – a no-nonsense hero who is also quite human. This story will appeal to any fan of detective tales, be they Law and Order, Dexter, or the legends of genre fiction.
